SD ATELIER

SD Atelier (French for studio) Architecture L.L.C. is a local architectural firm based out of Saratoga Springs.
The firm was first established in 1992 as a sole proprietorship by Susan Davis. Donald Davis joined in 1996 and the business was established as a L.L.C.

The partners, Donald and Susan Davis have diverse architectural and planning background from working in New York, Connecticut, Switzerland and Germany. Our background in combination with our size allows the firm to work with various styles and adapt the design for the site. We pride ourselves on meeting the personal needs of the client in a collaborative work environment. SD Atelier believes that open communication, realistic budgets and deadlines are the key to successful projects.

SD Atelier Architecture has received numerous awards from the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation for their projects and has been featured in several local and national publications including Builder/Architect, HOME magazine and House Beautiful.

  • Sue Davis

    Susan L. Davis, a licensed architect, is the principal of SD Atelier Architecture with her husband Donald Davis Jr. SD Atelier Architecture was established in 1992 and is located at 511 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. The firm specializes in historic renovations, municipal projects and custom residential designs both in and around the Saratoga area and in the Adirondacks. Some of the projects that her firm has been involved with include: Saratoga Springs Indoor Recreation Facility, the Adirondack League Club, the Seagle Colony Theater Building in Schroon Lake, Burnt Hills Veterinarian Hospital renovation, and numerous residential renovations and custom new homes.

    Prior to establishing SD Atelier Architecture, Susan worked as a project Architect for FROST Architecture, where she was involved with various historic renovations and custom residential work.

    Susan completed her internship in Connecticut and Westchester County, NY where she worked on custom high-end residential projects. She has also worked abroad in Switzerland at an Architecture Atelier (studio) and studied French at the University of Lausanne. Susan completed her Architecture studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

    In addition to practicing architecture, Susan Davis has served on the Saratoga Springs Design Review Commission from 2000- 2003 as the former Chairperson, and as a former Board member and past President of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation.

    Susan has also been involved with many Arts Education programs having been the recipient of two Arts Grants from the Saratoga County of the Arts. She has done educational programs for school age children in schools, Libraries and Arts Festivals.

  • Don Davis

    Donald Davis Jr., a licensed architect, is a principal of SD Atelier Architecture with his wife Susan Davis. SD Atelier Architecture was established in 1992 and is located in the Algonquin Building in Saratoga Springs. The firm specializes in historic renovations and custom residential designs both in and around the Saratoga area and in the Adirondacks.     Prior to working with Susan at SD Atelier Architecture, Donald worked as a project manager for Trudeau Architects, where he was involved with various feasibility studies. Donald completed his internship with Einhorn, Yaffee, and Prescott (EYP) in Albany, NY where he was involved with various large-scale institutional, municipal and Federal projects.

    Donald has also worked in Connecticut and New Hampshire where he worked on custom high-end residential projects. He has also worked abroad in Germany and worked on various town-planning projects. Donald completed his Architecture studies at Kansas State University and also received a drafting certificate from Orange County Community College.

    Donald is involved with the Construction Document and Site Supervisions of every project. He has a strong technical background and knowledge of sustainable building science which is applied to every project.
